Furious Swords and Fantastic Warriors Blu-ray Set Hits September 15

Eureka Entertainment releases the Furious Swords and Fantastic Warriors: The Heroic Cinema of Chang Cheh on Blu-ray on September 15. This extensive 5-disc set gathers ten films showing the diversity of celebrated Hong Kong director Chang Cheh’s career, including wuxia, kung fu, supernatural fantasy, and Chinese opera genres.

The set divides into two segments: Furious Swords (Disc 1: Men from the Monastery & Shaolin Martial Arts, Disc 2: King Eagle & Iron Bodyguard) and Fantastic Warriors (Disc 3: Fantastic Magic Baby & The Weird Man, Disc 4: Trail of the Broken Blade & Wandering Swordsman, Disc 5: Trilogy of Swordsmanship & New Shaolin Boxers). Presented in high-definition (1080p), all titles include newly revised English subtitles.

Audio commentaries enrich the release, featuring film critic David West on Men from the Monastery, The Trail of the Broken Blade, and The Weird Man. Action cinema experts Mike Leeder and Arne Venema contribute commentary to King Eagle, The Wandering Swordsman, Trilogy of Swordsmanship, and The Fantastic Magic Baby. East Asian film specialist Frank Djeng and martial artist-filmmaker Michael Worth provide insight on Shaolin Martial Arts, Iron Bodyguard, and New Shaolin Boxers. Djeng also narrates the commentary for Fantastic Magic Baby.

Additional materials include a new interview with Hong Kong cinema scholar Wayne Wong discussing Chang Cheh’s legacy, along with video essays by Jonathan Clements exploring Iron Bodyguard and Chang’s Shaolin film work. The limited edition package features a double-walled slipcase with new artwork by Darren Wheeling and a collector’s booklet containing critical essays by James Oliver.
