The Perfume of the Lady in Black 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Arrives September 22

The Perfume of the Lady in Black (1974), directed by Italian polymath Francesco Barilli, arrives on a limited edition 4K UHD from Indicator and Powerhouse Films on September 22. This edition marks the world premiere of the film on 4K UHD, sourced from a new 4K HDR restoration made from the original negative.

Presented in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), the release includes two versions of the film: the original Italian-language version Il profumo della signora in nero, and the English-language version The Perfume of the Lady in Black. Audio is preserved in original mono, with new and improved English translation subtitles for the Italian track and English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing on the English track.

The bonus materials offer an audio commentary with film historians Eugenio Ercolani and Troy Howarth recorded in 2025. Additional featurettes include comprehensive interviews with Francesco Barilli discussing his inspirations and career, as well as perspectives from actress Lara Wendel, who played young Sylvia. There is also a detailed analysis of Nicola Piovani's score by DJ and soundtrack enthusiast Lovely Jon, alongside a then-and-now location tour.

Archival content features the lengthy 2008 interview Portrait in Black with Barilli, and original theatrical trailers in both English and Italian.

This edition is completed by an image gallery of promotional material and an exclusive 80-page book. The book contains a new essay by Paul Duane, a career-spanning archival interview with Francesco Barilli, a profile of actor Mimsy Farmer, and full credits.

The limited edition run consists of 5,000 individually numbered units, including 4,000 4K UHD discs and 1,000 Blu-rays, making it a significant release for collectors and fans of Italian giallo cinema.
