Saving Face Blu-ray Release Arrives August 26 from Criterion
Criterion Collection presents Alice Wu's 2004 queer romantic comedy with new special features and a director-approved digital master.
Saving Face (2004) is a queer romantic comedy set in vibrant, multicultural New York City, directed by Alice Wu. The film explores the complex relationship between Wil (Michelle Krusiec), a young surgical resident, and Vivian (Lynn Chen), a dancer, alongside Wil's traditional Chinese mother (Joan Chen), who unexpectedly moves in unwed and pregnant. The story confronts generational and cultural barriers within the Chinese American diaspora.
This Criterion Collection Blu-ray release features a high-definition digital master approved by Wu and includes a 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Special features comprise audio commentary by the director, new interviews with Wu and Joan Chen, deleted scenes with optional commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and a program from the 2005 Sundance Film Festival where the film was presented.
Additional inclusions support accessibility with English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. An essay by critic Phoebe Chen provides further critical context.
The disc is released by Criterion and scheduled to hit shelves on August 26, 2025.
Release Date: August 26, 2025.
