Kino Lorber releases Elliot Nugent's The Great Gatsby on Blu-ray with a new 4K restoration and bonus features
The Great Gatsby (1949), directed by Elliott Nugent, arrives on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber on August 12. The film stars Alan Ladd, Betty Field, Macdonald Carey, Ruth Hussey, and Barry Sullivan.
The story centers on Nick Carraway (Macdonald Carey), who lives among Long Island's wealthy elite during the 1920s. He becomes acquainted with his mysterious neighbor Jay Gatsby (Alan Ladd) after attending one of Gatsby’s lavish parties. Nick observes Gatsby's increasingly desperate pursuit of his lost love, Daisy Buchanan (Betty Field), now married to Tom Buchanan (Barry Sullivan), leading toward tragic consequences.
This Blu-ray features a new 4K restoration of the film, enabling enhanced picture quality faithful to the original. Audio commentary is provided by author and film historian Paul Talbot. Additionally, there is an interview with David Ladd conducted by Alan K. Rode, where Ladd discusses his father’s career and the making of this adaptation.
Also included are the theatrical trailer and optional English subtitles.
