The Green Knight
Director: David Lowery
Actors: Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton
PlotIn a reimagining of the chivalric tale found in Arthurian legends, a young and reckless Sir Gawain, nephew of King Arthur, yearns to prove his worth amongst the knights of the round table. During one Christmas gathering at Camelot, a mysterious and otherworldly figure, the Green Knight, presents a challenge to the court: any knight able to land a blow on him will win his emerald axe, but must agree to receive an equivalent strike one year hence at the Green Knight's own chapel. Gawain, seeking glory and recognition, beheads the Green Knight with one swift strike. To the shock of everyone present, the Green Knight retrieves his severed head, reminds Gawain of the bargain, and ominously departs, leaving Gawain with a year to contemplate his fate before he must honor the agreement.
As the year's end approaches, Gawain embarks on a perilous journey to uphold his end of the pact. His quest exposes him to a landscape fraught with trials that test his character, courage, and integrity. Along his path, he encounters thieves, spirits, giants, and a talking fox that offers cryptic advice. Gawain's travels are not only external but internal, as he grapples with his fear of his looming meeting with the Green Knight, his desire for honor, and the true nature of what it means to be a knight. Each encounter along the way brings him closer to confronting the mystery and temptation of what his promise might cost him.
