Plot

Evan McCauley is a man haunted by skills he has never learned and memories of places he has never visited. Diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age, he is on the brink of a mental breakdown exacerbated by his unexplained knowledge and the relentless need for medication which he struggles to afford. The multitude of intricate items he crafts, from samurai swords to complex hand-carved boxes, are the byproduct of his mysterious past, which he's unable to recall. His life takes a dramatic turn when he's pursued by a secretive group who reveal to him that his memories may be real, but they are from multiple past lives.

Introduced to the concept of reincarnation, Evan discovers he is among a select group called the "Infinites," whose members can retain their memories through each new life, allowing them to accumulate centuries of skills and knowledge. Among the Infinites, there are two factions: the Believers, who are committed to using their knowledge for the betterment of the world and are interested in the profound progress of humanity, and the Nihilists, who see the endless cycle of reincarnation as a curse and have a drastically different goal in mind - one that requires a rare and ancient artifact that Evan may hold the key to locating. As his past-lives' talents emerge, Evan becomes central to the fight between these two groups, with the future of all Infinites hanging in the balance.
