Bad Lieutenant 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Out August 18

Bad Lieutenant (1992), directed by Abel Ferrara and starring Harvey Keitel, arrives on 4K Blu-ray in a limited edition from British label 101 Films. This release marks the first time the film is available on 4K Blu-ray in the UK, featuring a combination of a 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray disc.

The film is noted for its gritty, unflinching portrayal of crime and moral decay in New York City, shot guerrilla-style on location. Despite its modest budget, the feature became a landmark piece of 90s independent cinema, with Keitel delivering a career-defining performance. Originally screened at Cannes, it faced MPAA challenges resulting in an R rating instead of NC-17 after Ferrara refused cuts to his vision.

This set includes newly produced interviews: Shooting in New York with Ferrara, Ken & Abel with cinematographer Ken Kelsch, and Bad Neighborhoods, exploring the film's shooting locations. Archival extras from prior editions are also included: a making-of featurette It All Happens Here, an audio commentary by Ferrara and Kelsch, an additional interview with Ferrara, and the original theatrical trailer.

The edition comes packaged in a slipcase with new artwork and contains a booklet featuring new essays: "Body of Evidence: How Harvey Keitel’s Bad Lieutenant Topped a Career of Fearless, Frank Performances" by James Mottram and "Morality Crisis: The Vice and Virtues of Abel Ferrara" by Rich Johnson. Optional English SDH subtitles are offered for the main feature.

This release from 101 Films Black Label represents their 45th title and preserves the film’s uncompromising approach with enhanced presentation and rich supplemental materials.
