Borg vs. McEnroe
Director: Janus Metz
Actors: Sverrir Gudnason, Shia LaBeouf, Stellan Skarsgård
PlotIn the late 1970s, Björn Borg is the top tennis player in the world, dominating the sport with precision and stoicism. Known for his unflappable demeanor on the court, Borg is on the cusp of making history by winning a record-breaking fifth Wimbledon championship. Off the court, Borg is dealing with immense pressure and emotional turmoil. The expectation to maintain his top-tier status and the relentless attention of the media and his fans weigh heavily on him. His coach, Lennart Bergelin, who has molded Borg’s career from a young age, provides stern guidance, but even he is concerned about Borg's mental state and the mounting pressure of maintaining his legacy.
Meanwhile, John McEnroe, an up-and-coming American player, is quickly earning a reputation both for his exceptional talent and his volatile behavior on the court. His confrontational attitude and frequent disputes with tennis officials stand in stark contrast to Borg’s controlled persona. McEnroe is determined to disrupt the tennis hierarchy and views dethroning Borg as the ultimate challenge. As the Wimbledon tournament progresses, the inevitable clash between these two titans of tennis becomes more imminent. Their contrasting styles—Borg’s cool, calculating approach versus McEnroe’s fiery, emotional play—make their looming duel one of the most anticipated matches in the sport’s history, a true battle of opposites that extends beyond the court and into their personal lives.
