Orbit DVD gets a Redesign: Faster, Friendlier, and Built for Film Lovers
Orbit DVD levels up its site with speed, clarity, and taste—exactly what Physical Media fans deserve
Orbit DVD’s smiling TV marches forward—new look, same indie‑shop soul.
We are building Mighty Chroma to bring Physical Media lovers the best platform in the world—and we celebrate every indie store that makes collecting easier. Orbit DVD has just redesigned their site: a new clean interface, smarter search, easy-to-read product pages and a lot more. They took a step forward and kept their identity intact.
Trusted by fans for years, Orbit DVD made a decision to innovate and it matters to us: as we build what we hope is the greatest platform on the planet for people who love Physical Media movies, we are rooting for every player in the space—stores, labels, reviewers—to keep innovating. This is what Orbit DVD did, and today I want to showcase what I love about their site.
Search Results and Categories
Search grid layout, plentiful filters, badges and a clear products view
Search and New Releases, same rhythm—instant filters, live counts, big art, and badges that tell the story.
The full results page behaves like a collector’s dashboard: quick grid, clear prices and format lines and a left rail with everything you'll need—Availability, Format, Condition, Price, Region. Applied chips are easy to remove and the grid updates instantly. Region badges, a price slider and view toggles keep the experience fast and nimble.
Categories page - in our case New Releases - mirrors that layout: same grid, same toolbar and the same tidy left rail with live counts. Again I love the tiles here—big art, clean prices, Region Free and Sold out badges, and SLIP callouts on picks like The Inquisitor 4K Blu-ray by Radiance and Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress 4K Blu-ray from BFI
Instant Search
A two‑column overlay for quick hits and suggestions
Type, see editions and suggestions, tap through—the instant overlay helps you decide.
The instant overlay does exactly what we want it to do. A big and legible field to search for your favorite movie, a neat little X if you change your mind, and—boom—two columns as you type. Products on the left with art front and center, the core title up top, then the exact edition you’re after: a pre-order for the new 4K Criterion for Eyes Wide Shut.
On the right, Suggestions shows helpful variants—“eyes wide shut,” “pre order eyes wide shut”—this helps avoid typos and dead‑ends. “View all search results” takes us to our next section!
Product Page
Big art, clear preorder status and a thorough features list
Big art, clear street date, one‑click preorder—and a stacked features list
The layout is collector‑friendly: large key art on the left, and on the right a clean stack of all the important facts—title, 4K UHD badge, catalog number, price and more. And it is great to be able to add to cart and pay via Paypal. Also shout out to that Wishlist button!
Street Date and label - in our case Criterion - are clear and visible, and a small specs table repeats the must‑knows—Format, Condition, etc. Scroll for the Special Features list: Dolby Vision 4K disc, two Blu‑rays, the Larry Smith‑approved restoration, interviews and docs, trailers, subtitles, and the Megan Abbott essay.
Top Bar
Big search in the center, clean icons, and many categories
Big search up front, a hard‑working category row—Pre‑Orders in yellow right where we need it.
The header is balanced and purposeful: big logo on the left, a large search field in the middle, and clear account and bag icons on the right. The dark theme feels cinematic, and spacing keeps everything readable on desktop and mobile. You land on the page and instantly know where to go.
The second row shows all the most important categories: Pre‑Orders pops in yellow, then New Movies, Used Movies, Imports, Labels, Curations, Accessories, About Us, and Video Games—each with a neat chevron for quick dropdowns. It is elegant, functional, and helps us shop around for a new movie we may want to get.
Staff Recommendations
The iconic Orbit DVD TV face and smart staff picks that add a human touch
Staff picks with the smiley TV—recommendations from real people, great taste and quick badges that nudge the buy.
Staff Highlights brings the human touch, with the Orbit DVD smiling TV mascot and a friendly Read All link to browse a wider selection. Each pick shows format and price at a glance. It reads like real clerks sharing real taste.
And I personally love that lineup: Dawn of the Dead by Second Sight and James Cameron's 4K remaster of Aliens are my 2 standouts. And again handy badges do the signaling—Region Free, SLIP—so you can make decisions quick. Personality plus speed is a great combo.
The energy Physical Media needs
Less friction, clearer specs—and why Mighty Chroma is here to amplify it
This is what Physical Media needs: thoughtful improvements that help collectors get the editions they are after. The latest redesign at Orbit DVD is a great step in the right direction—looks fresh, has easy paths to Pre‑Orders and New Releases. Search is quick and has responsive filters, specs are clear as are street dates. And staff picks that feel human.
This is why we are building Mighty Chroma: the best platform in the world for Physical Media movie lovers. We work to support the stores, labels and reviewers that keep the culture vibrant. We hope Orbit DVD—and others—keep pushing forward with smart, user‑first ideas. And we are going to be right by their side.
I love movies. My favorites are A Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction and The Thin Red Line.
I regularly watch anything from Charlie Chaplin to Michael Bay - and love both! I started Mighty Chroma out of my love for the best way to watch - and listen to! - a high quality movie at home.
I hope you are enjoying your stay! 😀
