The Two Jakes 4K Blu-ray Releases August 26 from Kino Lorber
Kino Lorber presents Jack Nicholson's noir follow-up with new 4K restoration and extensive bonus features
The Two Jakes (1990), directed by and starring Jack Nicholson, arrives on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray from Kino Lorber on August 26. This sequel to Chinatown unfolds an atmospheric noir mystery set in post-war 1948 Los Angeles, where private eye Jake Gittes investigates a murder linked to oil interests and his own past.
The release includes a new 4K restoration scanned from the original camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision HDR. Audio options feature a 5.1 surround mix alongside lossless stereo 2.0 tracks, with optional English subtitles.
The package consists of two discs: The first disc is the 4K Blu-ray with the restoration and a new audio commentary by mystery writer and filmmaker Max Allan Collins, joined by film historian Heath Holland. The second disc is a standard Blu-ray containing the same restored film alongside the commentary and a range of new bonus materials.
Special features on the Blu-ray include a newly recorded interview with actor David Keith titled Flying High with Jack (9:06), an interview with editor Anne Goursaud called Time Changes Things - Editing The Two Jakes (18:37), and an 18-minute Jack on Jake interview with Jack Nicholson. The theatrical trailer is also included.
This Kino Lorber release offers a detailed and well-curated presentation aimed at collectors and aficionados of classic noir cinema, preserving the intricate storytelling and performances of the film.
