Senso Blu-ray Releases August 18 from Radiance Films
Limited edition Blu-ray features a 2K restoration, dual aspect ratios, exclusive interviews, and extensive extras
Senso arrives on Blu-ray from Radiance Films on August 18, 2025, marking its first UK Blu-ray release. Directed by Luchino Visconti, this period melodrama set on the eve of the Third Italian War of Independence stars Alida Valli and Farley Granger. The film explores the conflicted affair between Countess Livia Serpieri and Lieutenant Franz Mahler amidst revolution and betrayal.
The Blu-ray presents a 2K restoration completed by Cineteca di Bologna and the Film Foundation, supervised by cinematographer Giuseppe Rotunno and Martin Scorsese. It offers both the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio and the alternate 1.66:1 version across two discs. Audio is featured in the original uncompressed PCM mono format.
Special features include the alternate English language version titled "The Wanton Countess" with newly transferred audio; a documentary on Visconti’s career, "Luchino Visconti: Life as in a Novel" (1999), featuring contributions from Claudia Cardinale, Burt Lancaster, and others; archival interviews with Visconti and Maria Callas; and a new interview with critic and fashion historian Matteo Augello recorded in 2025.
This limited edition release includes a reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Time Tomorrow as well as an extensive booklet featuring new writing by Christina Newland.
