Film Masters releases John Cromwell's 1938 classic Algiers on Blu-ray with new 5K restoration and special features
Algiers (1938), directed by John Cromwell, arrives on Blu-ray from Film Masters on July 29. This edition features Charles Boyer as Pepe, a jewel thief hiding in the Casbah of Algiers, alongside Hedy Lamarr in her American film debut as Gaby. The film is a Hollywood remake of the French classic Pepe le Moko, with dialogue by noir writer James M. Cain. It influenced various cultural references, including Casablanca and the Pepe Le Pew cartoons.
The Blu-ray includes a new 5K restoration sourced from a 16mm print, enhancing the film's visual quality. Audio commentary is also newly recorded for this release. Viewers can access optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature, supporting accessibility.
