Neither the Sea nor the Sand (1972), directed by Fred Burnley and starring Susan Hampshire, Frank Finlay, Michael Petrovitch, Michael Craze, and Jack Lambert, releases on Blu-ray from 88 Films on August 4, 2025. This high-definition release presents the film in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with uncompressed mono audio and optional English SDH subtitles.
The narrative follows troubled Anna (Susan Hampshire), who arrives in Jersey seeking purpose and finds love with a man named Hugh, despite his brother's hostility. After they flee to Scotland and Hugh unexpectedly dies, Anna's life becomes further complicated when Hugh mysteriously seems to return from the dead. Written by TV's Gordon Honeycombe (Mr. and Mrs.), the film blends elements of witchcraft, horror, and haunting atmosphere into a coastal mystery.
This release includes two audio commentaries featuring John Hamilton and Jasper Sharp, and Kim Newman with Barry Forshaw. Additional supplements include interviews with Susan Hampshire, editor Norman Wanstall, standby propertyman Brian Lofthouse, and a segment by Stephen Thrower. The package features an image gallery and reversible sleeve art showcasing new artwork by Sean Longmore alongside the original poster.
The limited first pressing of this Region B Blu-ray also includes a collector’s O-ring and a booklet containing notes by Barry Forshaw and Andrew Graves.
