The story follows an obnoxious loser who misses his cult's planned ritual suicide. He reconnects with his fraudulent ex-messiah to rebuild their doomsday commune. Traveling through middle America, they recruit a military wannabe, a mentally unstable mother, and a mysterious foreign hitchhiker. The group faces the choice between fulfilling their supposed transcendent destiny or reconsidering the value of life itself.
