He Who Gets Slapped (1924), directed by Victor Sjöström and starring Lon Chaney, Norma Shearer, and John Gilbert, releases on Blu-ray from Flicker Alley on September 9. This edition marks the high definition debut of the silent film, restored by Blackhawk Films in 2024 from a first generation 35mm safety print and a 16mm dupe negative.
The film follows a disgraced scientist turned clown known only as HE, who enacts a strange and intricate revenge after public humiliation. Alongside the feature film, this release offers two original scores: a piano composition by Antonio Coppola and an orchestral score performed live by Alloy Orchestra in 2013.
