VCI Home Entertainment revives Cecil B. DeMille's 1917 classic with special features
VCI Home Entertainment is set to release a newly restored Blu-ray of the timeless 1917 feature, The Little American, directed by Cecil B. DeMille. This historic film features legendary actress Mary Pickford in a poignant role that resonates through cinematic history. Scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, this Blu-ray edition enriches the viewing experience with a suite of special features.
In The Little American, Mary Pickford portrays Angela Moore, an American who faces German aggression during World War I. Stranded and endangered in a French chateau, Angela exhibits unyielding courage amidst warfare's chaos and emotional turmoil—a hallmark of Pickford's stirring performances that captivated audiences as early as its premiere on August 4th, 1917.
This release includes a newly restored print accompanied by an original musical score by Adam Chavez, enhancing the film's dramatic impact. Film historian Marc Wanamaker provides a new audio commentary track, offering insights into DeMille's filmmaking prowess and the cultural context of the era.
In addition to the main feature, this new edition includes a photo gallery curated by Tiffany L Clayton and a supplementary short film titled A Lodging for the Night, dating from May 9th, 1912, enriching viewers’ understanding of early American cinema.
