Brother (2000), directed by Takeshi Kitano, is making its way to Blu-ray thanks to the British Film Institute. The release, scheduled for April 21, showcases a high-definition transfer of the crime thriller, marking Kitano’s English-language debut. In the film, Kitano stars as Yamamoto 'Aniki', a Japanese yakuza who flees to Los Angeles following a failed gang war. There, he reunites with his younger brother, expanding a minor drug operation into a criminal empire.
Widely acclaimed as Japan's most influential director since Akira Kurosawa, Kitano's work in Brother offers a gripping narrative of loyalty and ambition. The release will include a collection of special features that provide deeper insights into the film and Kitano's creative process.
