Bonjour Tristesse Blu-ray Arrives August 18 from Sony
Sony releases Bonjour Tristesse on Blu-ray with a new restoration and extensive special features this August 18.
Bonjour Tristesse arrives on Blu-ray from Sony, presenting a 4K restoration of the 1958 adaptation directed by Otto Preminger. This release showcases the film's innovative blend of color and black-and-white cinematography, originally captured on location by Georges Périnal.
The film stars Deborah Kerr, David Niven, and Jean Seberg in a drama set on the French Riviera, exploring complex family dynamics and tragic consequences. The disc features original mono audio, maintaining the film's authentic sound.
Special features include an audio commentary by critics Glenn Kenny and Farran Smith Nehme recorded in 2025, and Geoff Andrew’s 2025 analysis of the film’s production, cast, and crew. Additionally, there is a featurette titled A Charming Little Monster (2016) where Denis Westhoff reflects on Françoise Sagan’s novel and its screen adaptation.
The release also includes the original theatrical trailer and an isolated music and effects track, supplementing the film’s presentation. An image gallery offers promotional and publicity materials, alongside improved English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
A limited edition exclusive booklet accompanies the Blu-ray, containing an essay by Peter Cowie, insights into Sagan’s source novel, archival production materials, an overview of contemporary critical responses, and full film credits.
Release Date: August 18, 2025.
