The Diabolical Dr Z aka Miss Muerte is a 1966 horror film directed by Jesús "Jess" Franco, released during the European gothic horror boom of the 1960s. The story follows the daughter of a mad scientist, Irma Zimmer (Mabel Karr), who continues her late father's work - utilizing a device that controls human minds, she commands nightclub performer Miss Meurte (Estella Blain), whose razor-sharp poisoned fingernails dispatch those responsible for disgracing her father.
This film stands as an early work of Franco, a prolific cult cinema figure whose career continued until 2013. It contributes an atmospheric entry into 1960s gothic horror and prefigures the more exploitative films that would mark Franco's later reputation.
