The Beast to Die 4K Restoration: July 22 Release from Radiance
Radiance releases July 22 on Blu-ray a 4K restoration of Toru Murakawa's 1980 thriller starring Yusaku Matsuda
The Beast to Die (1980), directed by Toru Murakawa, arrives on Blu-ray July 22 from Radiance featuring a new 4K restoration by the Kadokawa Studio. The release stars Yusaku Matsuda in his final 1970s action role, alongside Toshie Negishi, Hideo Murota, Mako Midori, and Takeshi Kaga.
The story follows a war photographer haunted by his experiences in Asia, who initiates a series of violent crimes culminating in a high-stakes bank heist. He recruits Tetsuo, portrayed by Takeshi Kaga, to aid in his plans. The screenplay was penned by Shoichi Maruyama.
This edition presents the film with original uncompressed PCM mono audio accompanied by newly improved English subtitles. Special features include interviews with director Toru Murakawa and screenwriter Shoichi Maruyama from 2025, and a critical appreciation by novelist and screenwriter Jordan Harper.
Packaging details feature a reversible sleeve with the original and newly commissioned artwork by Time Tomorrow as well as a limited edition booklet with an essay by Tatsuya Masuto. It is presented in full-height Scanavo packaging with a removable OBI strip and is limited to 3,000 copies.
Region A/B locked. The US and Canada street date is set for July 22, while the UK release is on July 21.
