PlotA young husband stands accused of murdering his wife in a remote Polish village, rousing suspicion and stirring deep divisions among the local community. The solemn investigation is overshadowed by the relentless swirl of rumors and the prejudices of neighbors, each eager to interpret the tragedy through the narrow lens of their own experiences and fears. The accused man’s isolation grows as old alliances fracture and villagers wrestle with uncertainty. Court officials and witnesses are called, yet each retelling of events seems to further blur the truth. Stark, minimal dialogues and fragmentary memories reveal the emotional chasms between those involved, with the passage of time doing little to mend wounds or resolve doubts.
Caught between collective hostility and the indifferent bureaucracy of the justice system, the accused finds himself spiraling into despair. The legal proceedings become a performance, exposing not just the details of a single crime but also the inability of the community to comprehend or empathize beyond their entrenched suspicions. Questions about guilt, innocence, and personal responsibility echo through cramped rooms and desolate landscapes. As memories and testimonies clash, those closest to the tragedy must confront painful realities about themselves and each other. The search for truth continually slips away, leaving behind only ambiguity, regret, and a lingering sense of unease that haunts every character partway through the unfolding narrative.
