Kill Zombie!'s Blu-ray presentation boasts an impressive 1080p, 2.35:1 transfer with sharp, detailed imagery, vibrant colors, and effective CGI. Despite minor early video inconsistencies and some video noise, the detail in makeup and fluid effects stands out, making this a striking and appealing high-definition experience.
Audio: 79
Kill Zombie!'s DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 impresses with dynamic surround activity, robust sound effects, and clean dialogue, making for an immersive experience heightened by excellent low-frequency extension and wide dynamic range.
Extra: 6
Reluctantly generous, the Blu-ray of 'Kill Zombie!' includes only a singular extra—a high-definition theatrical trailer (1080i; 1:07)—highlighting the minimal bonus content provided for this release.
Movie: 57
Kill Zombie! offers a low-budget, humorous take on the zombie genre with inventive design resembling a live-action comic book. While clearly inspired by films like 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Scott Pilgrim,' its comedic attempts can feel forced. Still, the creative effects and enthusiastic performances deliver an amusing, if derivative, horror-comedy experience.

"Kill Zombie!" receives a commendable Blu-ray presentation from Well Go USA, boasting a 1080p AVC encoded transfer in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Despite its low-budget origins, the digitally shot film displays a surprisingly appealing and vividly sharp image. The makeup effects, particularly the graphic details of the zombies' festering green sores and the devastated landscapes of Amsterdam, are rendered with impressive clarity. Close-ups provide an intricate look at the gore and grime, punctuating the film's grotesque aesthetic. CGI effects are seamlessly integrated, maintaining a high level of detail without noticeable softness or banding issues.
The color reproduction is particularly noteworthy, with a vibrant palette that defies expectations set by the box art. Instead of dark and muted tones, the film bursts with colorful costumes and varied hues, reminiscent of comedies like "Shaun of the Dead." Black levels are suitably deep, enhancing nighttime scenes, while skin tones remain natural for live characters and artistically unsettling for the undead. Occasional minor video noise and brief inconsistencies in sharpness during the initial 20-25 minutes do not significantly detract from the overall experience.
With moderate contrast adjustments enhancing the visual style, "Kill Zombie!" maintains an engaging and visually stimulating presentation throughout its runtime. From the vivid depiction of colorful zombie fluids to the minute details in fleshy textures and makeup effects, this Blu-ray transfer is a visually satisfying experience that surpasses typical expectations for low-budget horror-comedies. Overall, Well Go USA’s Blu-ray delivers a stellar video performance that captures every gory, humorous, and apocalyptic nuance with finesse.

The Blu-ray audio presentation of "Kill Zombie!" boasts an impressively dynamic and immersive lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track in its original Dutch language, with English subtitles. From the initial scene where Aziz fires a potent pistol, listeners are immediately drawn into a boisterously aggressive mix replete with robust sound effects and a propulsive low end. The surround activity is laudably consistent, enveloping the viewer in the ambient cacophony of gunfire, growls, and zombie crunches, all of which are rendered with striking realism.
Dialogue reproduction is stellar, consistently clear and free from any pops, cracks, or hissing, ensuring comprehensibility even for non-Dutch speakers. Directionality throughout the mix is exceptional, with bullets whizzing by and other elements of chaos deftly managed across the soundstage. The bass is particularly noteworthy; it shakes the room without feeling forced, contributing to a wide dynamic range and excellent low-frequency extension (LFE). Despite a minor hiccup or two, the track maintains its fidelity through scenes of mass carnage, explosions, and collapsing structures.
In addition to the primary DTS-HD MA 5.1 track, the release includes a Dutch Dolby Digital 2.0 option for those who prefer it. However, the 5.1 mix is where this release truly shines, delivering an engrossing experience that captures the frenetic energy and tension of the zombie action. Overall, this audio track stands out as one of the best for a zombie film, providing a thrilling and visceral auditory experience that will delight audiophiles and casual viewers alike.
Extras: 6
The Blu-ray release of "Kill Zombie!" unfortunately falls short in the extras department. While the technical quality of the included material is satisfactory, the selection is disappointingly sparse. Fans hoping for a rich exploration of behind-the-scenes content or interviews will be let down, as this release offers only a single extra. The inclusion of merely the theatrical trailer feels like a significant oversight, given the modern expectations for Blu-ray additions. Despite the high-definition presentation of the trailer, it is challenging to justify this as a comprehensive extras package.

Effortlessly mixing horror and comedy, "Kill Zombie!" is the brainchild of Dutch filmmakers Martijn Smits, Erwin van den Eshof, and Tijs van Marle. The narrative revolves around Aziz (Yahya Gaier), a well-meaning, yet hapless gentleman, navigating through a zombie-infested Amsterdam after a Russian satellite crash releases a virus. Alongside his brother Mo (Mimoun Ouled Radi) and a cliché yet endearing cast of survivors, including the resilient cop Kim (Gigi Ravelli), Aziz embarks on a predictably yet colorfully chaotic journey. This film doesn’t flog any new ground in the zombie genre but does so with a lively spirit and inventive production design, often resembling a live-action comic book. Special effects are notably robust for a low-budget endeavor, aptly splattering the screen with gleefully exaggerated green gore.
"Kill Zombie!" channels the verve of Edgar Wright’s "Shaun of the Dead" and the flashy aesthetics of "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." It refrains from taking itself seriously, offering an energetic mash-up of quick cuts and video-game-style fight sequences. There’s an amiable absurdity to it all—Aziz and his companions launching into improbably comedic quests while a distinctive Netherlandian humor underpins the story. Particularly noteworthy is how the film proudly wears its Dutch heritage, replete with references likely better appreciated by local audiences. Performances are engaging considering the script’s limitations, with actors clearly relishing their roles despite the precarious balance between slapstick and genuine humor.
Despite its occasional struggles with pacing and attempts at more awkward humor, "Kill Zombie!" redeems itself through its charm and sheer enthusiasm. Whilst some comedic elements feel forced, the film regains footing whenever action sequences command the narrative—showcasing a fun spectacle of zombie mayhem that ultimately defines its appeal. For seasoned genre enthusiasts, "Kill Zombie!" satisfies as a rollicking entry into the zombie canon.
Total: 58
"Kill Zombie!" is a surprisingly engaging entry in the zombie genre, balancing typical undead tropes with a hefty dose of humor and some genuinely creepy effects. The film doesn't offer much in the way of originality, but it compensates with an energetic execution and numerous nods to other films in the genre, especially those by Edgar Wright. Technically, the Blu-ray release boasts impressive video and audio quality, providing a rich viewing experience that is well worth owning. However, it falls short in the extras department, with the only bonus feature being a trailer, leaving fans wishing for more behind-the-scenes content.
Despite moments of promise, "Kill Zombie!" sometimes struggles to maintain its initial appeal. The humor and horror elements occasionally wane, resulting in an uneven pacing. Though it provides sporadic chuckles and shocks, the film's overall quality is somewhat inconsistent. The Blu-ray's technical merits—crisp audio and sharp video—enhance the viewing experience but cannot wholly compensate for its lackluster supplemental features, thereby tempering the enthusiasm of potential collectors.
In conclusion, "Kill Zombie!" proves that you don't have to reinvent the wheel to make an entertaining film about the undead. Just about everything in this film simply works down a checklist of accepted zombie flick tropes, but it's still a surprisingly entertaining little movie that has its fair share of laughs and creepy special effects. The technical merits here are first-rate and "Kill Zombie!" comes Recommended.
