Not Another Teen Movie" arrives on Blu-ray as part of Sony's Choice Collection, a format that has stirred up some controversy due to its budget-friendly approach that doesn't skimp on quality. This presentation is impressive, showcasing a filmic quality that maintains the original texture of the movie. Viewers will appreciate the light grain structure that not only preserves but enhances the intricate details of the film's visuals, from the fabric of clothing like denim and varsity jackets to the finer points of facial expressions in both close-up and medium shots. The level detailing ensures that every scene, whether set in the bustling halls of the school or the more intimate settings of various homes, is presented with clarity and depth.
Colors in this transfer are handled with care, displaying a natural vibrancy without ever becoming overpowering. The palette benefits greatly from this approach, with the orange hues of the school environment, the greens of outdoor scenes, and the reds of particular vehicles standing out with life-like fidelity. Additionally, the diverse yet harmonious color scheme enhances the overall atmosphere, providing a visual treat that complements the film's tone perfectly. Black levels are notably deep, adding dimension and contrast without losing detail in darker scenes, while skin tones are rendered with remarkable naturalism.
Despite the concerns some might have about the BD-R format and its no-frills packaging, Sony's Blu-ray release of "Not Another Teen Movie" defies expectations by delivering a video presentation that is as close to pristine as fans could hope for. The transfer is devoid of any significant source or encoding flaws, ensuring that viewers can enjoy this satirical take on teen comedies with visual quality that pays homage to the genre's classic aesthetics.

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack provided for "Not Another Teen Movie" Blu Ray edition is a genuine treat for the ears, perfectly catering to the dynamic and varied audio requirements of the film. The audio allows for a pleasurable lossless listening experience that beautifully complements the movie’s energetic essence. The soundtrack shines with its wide-ranging musical score, enveloping the listener with intricate back-end support and a low-end that adds a hefty punch when necessary. From the lighter melodies to the sharper, more intense guitar riffs, every musical nuance is captured with striking clarity and depth, effectively showcasing the period’s music with an undeniable richness.
The soundtrack excels in rendering the myriad of sound effects with an impressive level of detail. Whether it be the metallic clinks and clatters of a high school environment, the immersive buzz of a party scene, or the echoing void of an almost empty stadium, every sound element is meticulously crafted and placed within the soundscape. Particularly noteworthy is how effectively ambient sounds, such as packed crowds at a football game or the honk of an airhorn, are distributed across the full auditory stage, enhancing the overall viewing experience with a well-balanced and lifelike auditory presentation.
Moreover, dialogues are given the utmost priority, anchored securely in their front-center position, ensuring clarity and intelligibility without sacrificing their naturalness. This careful treatment ensures that spoken words are never lost or overshadowed by the background activity, regardless of how dynamically the surrounding sound environment evolves. The audio mix’s adeptness at leveraging the full stage, combined with its precision in sound placement and balance, significantly contributes to an immersive and highly enjoyable movie-watching experience.

The Blu-ray release of "Not Another Teen Movie" presents an assortment of extras, albeit mostly in standard definition and carried over from previous editions. Notable is the absence of high-definition enhancements for the supplementary content, reflecting a missed opportunity to update and refine these features for Blu-ray standards. The collection is accessible only through a rudimentary pop-up menu during the movie, a choice that complicates navigation and diminishes user experience, especially without a top-level menu. The packaging itself is an unnecessarily bulky Blu-ray case, with no inclusion of DVD or digital copy variants. The extras span a variety of behind-the-scenes looks, including detailed commentaries, a plethora of deleted and extended scenes, and unique features like a high school yearbook simulation and auditions montage, contributing to an extensive but technically underwhelming bonus content offering.
Extras included in this disc:
- Audio Commentary: A detailed breakdown by Director Joel Gallen and Writer/Producer Mike Bender.

Not Another Teen Movie," presented in Sony's Choice Collection Blu-ray, captivates by striking a delicate balance between homage and parody, threading the needle with an appreciation for the teen movie genre while simultaneously poking fun at its most enduring tropes. Released in 2001, amid a dwindling number of genuinely entertaining parody films, it stands out for not only emulating the aesthetic and essence of the films it mocks but doing so with palpable reverence and a unique flair. It adeptly navigates through an assortment of classics, from "She's All That" to "Varsity Blues," delivering a concoction that feels familiar yet freshly amusing. The finesse with which it mirrors beloved scenes and characters—often blending multiple references into singular, seamless jests—proves its mettle beyond mere mimicry, highlighting a well-orchestrated endeavor that enhances the source material's spirit rather than diminishing it.
Central to the film's allure is its sprawling ensemble cast, including a then-lesser-known Chris Evans, whose performances breathe life into caricatures with surprising depth and laughter. The recreation of iconic moments, such as a meticulously crafted homage to "The Breakfast Club" complete with an appearance by Paul Gleason, underscores a commitment to authenticity and attention to detail. Such dedication extends to the precision in casting, wardrobe, and setting replication, enriching the viewing experience with layers of visual and narrative nostalgia. It's these subtleties—evident in flavorful easter eggs like the Anthony Michael Dining Hall—that reward viewers with new gems upon each rewatch, embodying the essence of what makes "Not Another Teen Movie" a distinctive entity within the parody domain.
The film deftly juggles a vast array of plotlines and character arcs borrowed from its myriad sources, weaving them into a coherent narrative that transcends mere pastiche. Its success lies not only in the grandeur of replicating blockbuster scenes but in the finesse of its subtler quirks, which collectively render it a love letter to the teen movie genre. With notable cameos, including Mr. T and Molly Ringwald, alongside spirited performances across the board, "Not Another Teen Movie" emerges not as a discordant spoof but as an entertaining, well-crafted celebration of the films it lampoons. This Blu-ray presentation accentuates these qualities, offering a rejuvenated look at a film that both satirizes and salutes its inspirations with equal measure.

Not Another Teen Movie" arrives on Blu-ray with a nod to the nostalgia of '90s teen cinema, masterfully blending homage and parody into a singular experience that resonates with both fans of the original films it mocks and audiences looking for unabashed laughter. This film stands out as one of the final quality spoof movies, distilling the essence of its genre predecessors into 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment. The Sony Choice Collection presentation of this Blu-ray offers a surprisingly solid package, which, despite a few drawbacks such as BD-R format concerns, underwhelming packaging, and basic disc aesthetics, brings the film home with an admirable array of technical specifications and bonus content.
The visual fidelity of the transfer is commendable, delivering crisp images that enhance the comedic delivery and period-accurate styling of the film. Coupled with a robust 5.1 lossless audio track, the technical presentation ensures that every gag lands with the intended impact, enveloping viewers in a wave of high school nostalgia and humor. Although the presentation is marred by less-than-ideal packaging and menu design, these are minor distractions from the overall quality of the release. Moreover, the inclusion of an extensive list of extras makes this Blu-ray edition a value-packed offering for fans eager to delve deeper into the making and essence of "Not Another Teen Movie."
In conclusion, while this Blu-ray release of "Not Another Teen Movie" may have its shortcomings in terms of packaging and disc design, it more than compensates with an exceptional audio-visual experience and a wealth of supplementary material. It stands as a highly recommended addition for collectors and fans alike, capturing the spirit of '90s teen films with reverence and wit, making it a unique and enjoyable revisitation of a bygone era in filmmaking, perfectly preserved for current and future generations to enjoy.

PlotAt John Hughes High School, the social hierarchy is as predictable and divided as any other American teenage environment. Here, popular jocks and beautiful cheerleaders rule, while the less attractive and socially awkward languish at the bottom of the pecking order. In this setting, Jake Wyler, the school's football hero, makes a bet with his friends that he can transform any girl into the prom queen. He chooses Janey Briggs, a girl who embodies the typical "not-noticeable" in high school: she's an art student with glasses, a ponytail, and paint-splattered overalls, completely invisible to the popular crowd.
The transformation begins and Janey undergoes a dramatic makeover, slowly climbing the social ladder under Jake's guidance. As Janey becomes more popular, she starts seeing the high school world from a different perspective, questioning the very fabric of their social standings. Meanwhile, Jake begins to question his own motives and realizes he's starting to fall for Janey for who she really is, not just as a part of a bet. But as the layers of high school's shallow and cruel nature are peeled back, both Janey and Jake must confront whether their relationship is genuine or just another facet of high school’s manipulative social games.
