The Ultra HD presentation of "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" comes from a blend of digital photography at resolutions of 2.8K and 3.4K, later finished on a 2K digital intermediate (DI). Despite being an upscaled 4K UHD release, the video quality sees a commendable uplift in clarity, color precision, and overall vibrancy compared to its 1080p counterpart. This upscaling process benefits the film's inherently bold and colorful fantasy elements, presenting them with heightened detail and chromatic intensity. The HDR10 color enhancement significantly distinguishes the UHD version from the Blu-ray, offering a more dynamic and brilliantly saturated palette, especially notable in scenes rich with Halloween hues and electric blues.
Scenes like the ensemble outside the red brick structure highlight the UHD's prowess, delivering an organic, tack sharp image with rich details in environments, fabrics, and facial features. Black levels are robust, contributing to a more solid flesh tone rendition and enhancing the visual depth, making the spooky festive colors of Halloween pop with greater impact. Despite these strengths, some limitations due to the 2K DI source are noted, including occasional softness and a minimal but present veil of noise across certain shots. However, these aspects do not significantly detract from the overall experience, with the detailed presentation of both practical effects and CGI elements standing out, albeit with slight disparity in their integration.
Encoding specifics include an HEVC/H.265 codec at a 4K (2160p) resolution with an aspect ratio of 2.39:1 on a BD-66 layer. The transfer excels in depth, showcasing clear spatial distinctions and naturally rounded movements without motion distortions. The color reproduction thrives within an admirably rich palette, elevating CG effects and costume vibrancy. Flesh tones remain consistent and natural across the board, permitting visible texture detailing at various distances. The presentation maintains cleanliness with no significant noise or artifacts, anchoring itself as a worthwhile upgrade over traditional Blu-ray formats for enthusiasts seeking enhanced visual fidelity.

Sony's 4K UHD release of "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" delivers a Dolby Atmos soundtrack that thoroughly enhances the viewing experience with an exceptional use of the soundstage. This audio presentation makes great strides in immersion, utilizing overhead audio objects for atmospheric effects and discrete sound movements, effectively drawing viewers into the heart of the movie's action and suspense. The sound mix provides a clear and coherent placement of effects, allowing viewers to feel as if they are directly within the scenes—whether it's the chaotic energy of a Gummy Bear attack in a living room or the eerie calm of a shopping center transformed into a space of suspense. Although the mix might not be as aggressively bass-heavy as some may prefer, with moderate low-end response noted during key moments like explosions or the thump of a giant spider's leg, it compensates with lively dynamics and detailed audio precision across the entirety of the soundscape.
The Atmos track stands out for its active engagement with the film's vibrant and energetic sound elements. From swirling sounds, swoops, and sweeps to the tangible chaos of Halloween night brought to life through immersive, all-encompassing sonics, the audio mix shines in its ability to pull listeners into the middle of the action. Discrete overhead effects contribute to the mix's depth and detail, enhancing both the score and sound effects, particularly during the film's sonically intense sequences. Dialogue remains crystal clear, well-prioritized, and accurately placed within the soundstage, maintaining clarity even amongst the tumultuous backdrop of effects and music.
In summary, Sony's Atmos mix for "Goosebumps 2" leverages the format's capabilities to deliver a captivating audio experience that's as fun as it is technically impressive. With a focus on dynamic layering, spatial awareness, and engaging every channel with purpose and creativity, this soundtrack is a standout in home cinema viewing. The balance between dialog, music by Dominic Lewis, and varied sound effects is meticulously maintained, ensuring an entertaining and immersive auditory journey throughout the film’s runtime. Despite some noted desires for more impactful bass response, the overall presentation showcases how effective an Atmos mix can be when aligning with the adventurous and whimsical spirit of its source material.

The Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween 4K UHD Blu-ray set separates its special features across two discs, with all extras loaded onto the included Blu-ray. The selection ranges from deleted scenes and a gag reel to more substantive behind-the-scenes content such as "Thrills & Chills – The Making of Goosebumps 2," offering insight into the creation of the film, including the design and implementation of its many monsters. Educational content is uniquely presented through "Science with Slappy," comprising five segments that blend scientific experimentation with film-related themes. Also included are in-character sing-alongs and a humorous "audition" for Slappy. While some features may feel like standard electronic press kit fillers, highlights like the detailed "Meet The Monsters" provide an appreciable glimpse into practical effects work. A digital Movies Anywhere copy ensures easy access on various devices, rounding off this package as a decent collection for fans despite the extras' absence on the 4K disc itself.
Extras included in this disc:
- Gag Reel: Humorous moments captured during the filming process.
- Three Deleted Scenes: Additional content not included in the final theatrical release.
- Five Featurettes: Including in-depth making-of segments and looks at the film's creature effects.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" delivers a family-friendly adventure dipped in supernatural chaos, managing to preserve the essence of R.L. Stine's imaginative universe despite veering from the direct narrative path set by its predecessor. The film captures the essence of childhood curiosity and the inevitable mischief of meddling with forces beyond comprehension, as best friends Sonny and Sam, alongside Sonny's sister Sarah, unearth a manuscript that releases Slappy the dummy into their world. This sequel thrives on its mixture of humor, mild horror elements, and the vibrant energy of its young cast, bringing to life the fantastical creatures with commendable special effects that particularly shine during the Halloween havoc.
While "Goosebumps 2" may not completely capture the original's charm, mostly due to Jack Black's reduced role, it stands its ground with a distinct narrative and engaging performances from Jeremy Ray Taylor, Madison Iseman, and Caleel Harris. These young actors bring depth to their characters, steering the story through both predictable and fresh avenues with equal finesse. The film, directed by Ari Sandel, safely navigates through a fantastical plot while ensuring Slappy's antics maintain a balance between eerie and entertaining. Despite its predictability and a somewhat formulaic approach to the teen and pre-teen tropes, the sequel effectively crafts a realm where the line between the ordinary and the otherworldly blurs joyfully.
Although aimed predominantly at a younger audience, "Goosebumps 2" moderately succeeds in engaging viewers across different age groups through its spirited visual effects and character dynamics. However, some may find its adherence to genre conventions and lack of substantial moral questioning a missed opportunity for depth. Nonetheless, for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike, the movie offers a solid dose of escapism, celebrating Halloween with a spirited mix of fright and fun that aligns well with Stine's literary world.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" on 4K UHD Blu-ray presents a visual and auditory feast that, despite the sequel's narrative shortcomings, elevates the overall viewing experience. The 2160p HDR10 transfer shines with bolder colors and deeper blacks, offering a significant upgrade over its 1080p counterpart. The film thrives on its digital craftsmanship, especially noted in scenes like the extraordinary appearance of a giant Halloween spider, showcasing impressive digital work. However, the core of Goosebumps 2's appeal lies within its audio prowess. The lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack demonstrates a refined dynamic range and detail-rich clarity. It utilizes the surround sound platform effectively, creating a spatial dimension that enhances the film’s atmosphere. The dialog is crisp and well-balanced against the backdrop of active low frequency effects, making every action sequence more impactful.
Despite its technical merits, "Goosebumps 2" struggles to offer anything beyond superficial enjoyment. It squarely targets a younger audience, leaving older fans of the franchise wanting more substance and nostalgia. While the sequel operates confidently within its fun but predictable boundaries, it lacks the original film's charm and depth. The movie is critiqued for being "harmless, but routine and empty kids entertainment," highlighting a missed opportunity to build on the franchise's legacy. Sony’s package does include a collection of kid-friendly extras, but this doesn't fully compensate for the film's narrative shortcomings, nor does it inspire much hope for a rejuvenation of the Goosebumps magic.
In conclusion, "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" on 4K UHD Blu-ray delivers an impressive technical presentation that arguably surpasses its content. While it visually and sonically entertains, the film itself offers little in terms of innovative storytelling or engaging substance. It's a release that will satisfy those seeking a fun, benign viewing experience but leaves much to be desired for those searching for a more memorable addition to the Goosebumps saga.

PlotIn the small town of Wardenclyffe, on Halloween night, two boys, Sonny and Sam, venture into an abandoned house during a junk collection job. While exploring, they uncover a hidden, locked manuscript. Unbeknownst to them, the book is a magical artifact that once belonged to R.L. Stine. Ignoring the warnings, they unlock the book, accidentally releasing the vengeful ventriloquist dummy named Slappy. Slappy's plan is to bring all of Halloween decorations to life and induct the boys into his family of monsters, creating chaos in the process.
Meanwhile, Sonny's sister, Sarah, is struggling with her college application essay, the typical stress of a high school senior. The siblings, along with Sam, soon realize the gravity of the situation caused by Slappy's release. As bizarre, supernatural disturbances increase across town, Sarah's desire for a normal Halloween and future aspirations are sidelined. The trio must figure out how to thwart Slappy's plot before the dummy's dark magic spirals further out of control, threatening to consume the town in eternal darkness.
