The Blu-ray of '21 Jump Street' offers a technically proficient 1080p transfer from Sony. Fine detail is impressively rendered with crisp definition and naturallooking skin tones. However, the overall image lacks vibrancy and wow factor, with certain CG effects glaringly obvious and no three-dimensional pop present.

21 Jump Street's DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track delivers exceptional clarity and immersive surround sound, seamlessly balancing dynamic music, explosive action, and precise dialogue, making it an engaging audio experience for an action-comedy film.
Extra: 61
21 Jump Street's Blu-ray extras deliver an engaging blend of content: a lively, albeit chaotic, commentary with Hill and Tatum; a robust selection of 20 deleted scenes; humorous featurettes on Ice Cube and Rob Riggle; and substantial behind-the-scenes insights, all presented in high definition.

21 Jump Street reinvigorates a stale cinematic formula with sharp wit, clever direction from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and standout performances by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. This Blu-ray delivers an R-rated, self-aware, and hilariously crude action-comedy that defies expectations and honors its 80s TV roots.

The "21 Jump Street" Blu-ray displays a solid 1080p transfer that is technically proficient but consistently dim. Despite the fine rendering and crisp definition, especially prevalent during close-ups, the overall image favors a slightly drained brightness setting, resulting in few vibrant scenes. Bright external sequences, such as natural greens and yellow school buses, stand out, whereas interior shots often lack significant visual vigor and appear flat. Skin tones can look pasty, and while details are well-reproduced in brighter scenes, darker sequences do not deliver much of a wow factor, although they remain sharp and focused with commendable black levels. The meticulously balanced flesh tones and appreciable levels of delineation in shadows confirm that there are no deleterious artifacts or other video-related anomalies.
Despite some reservations, the majority of the Blu-ray's visual presentation remains laudable. Fine detail is wonderfully revealing in both close-ups and broader shots, offering clear object definitions. Colors are well-saturated, with daylight scenes featuring striking primaries and nighttime sequences delivering gratifying blacks. The CG special effects stand out negatively due to the high-definition clarity, which underscores their artificiality. This occasionally diminishes the viewing experience, highlighting an otherwise competent transfer. The AVC MPEG-4 video transfer in a 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio might not offer a Blu-ray wow factor but maintains a consistent baseline of quality without aliasing, banding, or other artifacting issues. Despite some lackluster elements and noticeable CG, the Blu-ray presentation should suffice for enjoyment without significantly detracting from the film.

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack for "21 Jump Street" is an exemplary mix that excels in every critical aspect of audio presentation. This track provides supremely clear music, spanning from piercing highs to resonant lows. The inclusion of popular songs, from artists like Eminem, enhances the movie's dynamic nature, pulling listeners into the action with well-defined and immersive surround support. Gunfire and explosions are powerful and precise, effectively utilizing the entire soundstage to deliver a high-quality auditory experience. Whether engaging in hardcore action scenes or simply depicting the ambient sounds of a bustling school hallway, the track skillfully encompasses the listener in its aural environment.
Dialogue clarity stands out as a key strength, essential for a film driven heavily by verbal comedy. Jonah Hill’s numerous off-screen and under-the-breath comments are conveyed with crisp accuracy through the center and front channels, ensuring that no punchline is lost amidst the sonic chaos. Low-frequency effects (LFE) stay robust throughout, enriching the many explosions and hip-hop tracks, while the rear channels buzz with activity during party scenes and other intense moments. Panning effects are meticulously crafted, providing smooth directionality that impeccably aligns with on-screen actions. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has delivered a highly engaging and technically refined soundtrack that greatly enhances the viewing experience.
Overall, the audio presentation defies the typical standards of comedic films by offering an immersive and explosive experience. With dialogue levels consistently loud and clear and dynamic sound effects driving the ambiance, "21 Jump Street" exemplifies a top-tier audio mix on Blu-ray. The immersive surround effects elevate both comedic and action components, making this DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless track a standout element of the disc’s offering.
Extras: 61
The Blu-ray of "21 Jump Street" features an impressive collection of extras that greatly enhance the overall viewing experience. Notable inclusions are a lively yet somewhat chaotic audio commentary featuring directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller alongside actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, several entertaining deleted scenes, and multiple engaging featurettes. However, the commentary tends to lean more on humor and less on technical insights, which might be a letdown for those desiring in-depth production details. Despite that, the extras are well-curated and provide substantial entertainment value, making them a worthwhile addition.

"21 Jump Street" delivers an energetic reimagining of the 1980s TV series, now with a modern twist and a heap of self-aware humor. The film shines as both an action-comedy and a satirical commentary on the often tired trope of rebooting old franchises. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum star as former high school adversaries turned mismatched police partners. Their assignment: infiltrate a high school to uncover a drug ring by posing as students. The role reversal is clever, with Hill thriving in the cool crowd while Tatum finds unexpected kinship with the nerds. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller successfully merge witty dialogue, dynamic direction, and absurd yet sharp comedy.
The screenplay stands out for its sardonic wit and self-deprecating humor, exemplified by Nick Offerman's character acknowledging Hollywood’s habit of recycling ideas. The movie humorously plays up expectations around buddy cop films, action sequences, and nostalgia, all while maintaining originality. Visual gags, verbal riffs, and physical humor are rife throughout, punctuating the narrative with moments of genuine surprise and hilarity. The climax, replete with a car chase and shootout, transcends cliché through inventive execution, ensuring no dull moments from start to finish.
Key to the film's success is its amalgamation of crude humor and smart storytelling. Jonah Hill’s influence on the script is palpable, his comedic style blending naturally into scenes alongside Tatum’s charismatic performance. "21 Jump Street" remains refreshingly R-rated, never succumbing to the generic constraints of a PG-13 rating. The directors' deft handling keeps the comedic cadence tight, balancing action with laughter effortlessly. In conclusion, "21 Jump Street" excels as a clever reboot that embraces its origin while confidently striding into new territory, making it a must-watch for fans of both action and comedy.

"21 Jump Street" is an audacious blend of comedy and action, skillfully reimagining its 1980s predecessor with a modern twist. The film showcases a combination of crude humor and spirited creativity, pushing boundaries with its unapologetically bold narrative. Anchored by a clever script, standout direction, and first-rate performances from Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, "21 Jump Street" effortlessly transitions between outrageous comedy and engaging action, delivering a cinematic experience that is both refreshingly unique and entertaining.
Sony's Blu-ray release of "21 Jump Street" impressively captures the film's vibrant visuals and dynamic audio. The video quality is superb, maintaining crisp detail and vibrant colors that enhance the overall viewing experience. The audio track is equally commendable, providing clear dialogue delivery and robust sound effects that heighten both comedic and action-packed moments. Additionally, the Blu-ray includes a generous assortment of extras, offering further insight into the making of the film and extending the enjoyment beyond the main feature.
In conclusion, "21 Jump Street" is not only a standout comedy/action hybrid but also a stellar Blu-ray release. The combination of excellent film quality, high production values, and compelling extras make it a must-have addition to any collection. Whether you're revisiting the antics of Schmidt and Jenko or experiencing them for the first time, this release comes highly recommended.

PlotTwo former high school classmates, Schmidt and Jenko, each with their own shortcomings yet complementary skills, find themselves joining the police force together and becoming partners. Despite their enthusiasm for busting criminals, their lack of skill results in an embarrassing arrest blunder. As a consequence, they are reassigned to an undercover unit located at 21 Jump Street. This division is headed by the stern and imposing Captain Dickson, who instructs the pair to pose as high school students in order to infiltrate a school and crack down on a new synthetic drug that's been circulating among the students.
Schmidt and Jenko are tasked with finding the supplier and halting the spread of the drug before it reaches other schools. They enter the high school with a cover story, but they quickly find that the adolescent world has changed significantly since their own school days. The jock and the nerd struggle to fit into the current high school hierarchy and navigate teenage life while maintaining their adult responsibilities. As the investigation deepens, the two officers forge connections with certain students, which complicates their mission and tests the limits of their partnership.
