The Ultra HD Blu-ray of "Deadpool" delivers an unforgettable auditory experience with its dynamic Dolby Atmos mix, full of immersive effects and clear dialogue, elevating every action-packed moment through expert sound steering and effective use of overhead channels, making it superior to the already impressive 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio on the standard Blu-ray.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of "Deadpool" offers a visually stunning experience that capitalizes fully on the capabilities of the new format. Presented in a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) resolution, the film employs a 2.40:1 aspect ratio, encoded with HEVC (H.265) and 10-bit colour depth. This genuine 4K presentation benefits from High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a Wider Colour Gamut (WCG), employing the DCI-P3 colour space within the Rec.2020 container. These technical specifications lead to a remarkable presentation, with an impressive level of detail that was not as apparent in the standard Blu-ray version.
The visual quality of "Deadpool" is significantly enhanced by its 4K Digital Intermediate (DI), offering breathtaking detail, especially in elements such as Deadpool’s costume. The intricate fabric patterns and subtle color gradations in the reds show up vividly. The HDR implementation provides beautiful tone mapping, showcasing deeper blacks, improved shadow detail, and more nuanced skin textures. Scenes that feature complex lighting, such as those in clubs and strip bars, benefit from these advancements, revealing additional detail and depth. However, despite these improvements, some CGI elements occasionally look artificial due to budget constraints.
Overall, this Ultra HD Blu-ray sets a high bar for visual fidelity, with heightened clarity and natural color representation compared to its Blu-ray counterpart. The subdued yet accurate color palette aligns with the filmmakers’ intentions, contributing to a distinct aesthetic compared to typical comic book films. Despite fewer opportunities for specular highlights due to its reserved photography, the fine detail and improved contrast make for a visually compelling presentation that stands out among Fox's releases on the Ultra HD format. Viewers with HDR-enabled setups will particularly appreciate the full range of enhancements this disc provides.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray of Deadpool delivers an exceptional Dolby Atmos audio presentation, elevating the film's immersive experience to new heights compared to its Blu-ray counterpart that features a 7.1-channel DTS-HD Master Audio track. Most notable is the track's dynamic range and clarity, especially in dialogue delivery, ensuring that even when Deadpool addresses the audience amid explosive sequences, the speech remains pristine. The Atmos mix excels in integrating these dialogues with the complex soundscapes of swirling effects, making use of overhead channels for a truly three-dimensional auditory environment.
Technical finesse is evident in the distinct positioning of sound objects throughout the soundstage, offering a tangible level of immersion. This is exemplified in scenes such as the opening sequence's chaotic chase, where effects seamlessly transition around the listener, moving from above and encircling them in action. The detailed layering continues into other sequences, with helicopters landing or SUVs flipping through the air, capturing cinematic chaos with precision and propulsion. The bass is profound yet controlled, underpinning the mix, providing significant heft without overpowering the subtle details like ambient soundscapes and directional effects.
The film's soundtrack, rich with 90s pop culture throwbacks, integrates well with the aggressive yet refined audio effects. The mix benefits significantly from its use of classic hip-hop cues by Junkie XL, providing a solid LFE foundation that escalates the viewing experience. Despite minor issues such as muffled dialogue when characters speak through masks, the Dolby Atmos track overall presents Deadpool at its best, fully exploiting its potential to create an entertaining and highly engaging listening journey, proving it an excellent addition to any audiophile's collection.
Extras: 72
The 4K UHD Blu-ray edition of "Deadpool" provides a comprehensive suite of extras, making it a valuable package for fans and collectors alike. Notably, the Ultra HD disc includes two engaging audio commentaries, a rarity that enhances the viewing experience with invaluable insights from actor/producer Ryan Reynolds, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, director Tim Miller, and co-creator Rob Liefeld. The supplements are primarily housed on the standard Blu-ray, offering a robust collection of behind-the-scenes content. Highlighting the disc's offerings are nearly twenty minutes of deleted and extended scenes, a 78-minute comprehensive documentary titled "From Comics to Screen…to Screen," and a six-minute gag reel. Additionally, the intriguingly titled "Deadpool's Fun Sack" showcases the film's inventive marketing campaign through numerous videos and stills. This meticulous curation echoes the grand days of DVD bonuses, providing both entertainment and deeper insights into the film’s creation.
Extras included in this disc:
- Deleted/Extended Scenes: Features optional commentary by director Tim Miller.
- Gag Reel: Entertaining outtakes and behind-the-scenes mishaps.
- From Comics to Screen…to Screen: In-depth documentary divided into five segments.
- Gallery: Comprehensive collection of concept art, storyboards, and more.

The 4K UHD Blu-Ray release of "Deadpool" brings to home screens a film that brilliantly revitalizes the superhero genre with irreverence and wit. Emerging from complex development challenges and prior missteps in the first appearance of Deadpool, this film captures the anarchic spirit of its titular character, Wade Wilson, played masterfully by Ryan Reynolds. The movie intricately weaves an origin story rife with dark humor and intense action, exemplifying a sophisticated balance of tones that makes it exceedingly refreshing for the genre. As Wade transitions into Deadpool through a rogue experiment, the narrative adopts a non-linear storytelling approach, infused with sharp, meta-commentary that often breaks the fourth wall. Tim Miller’s direction, combined with the vibrant screenplay by Reese and Wernick, delivers a film that is both visually dynamic and narratively engaging.
The graphical fidelity of the 4K UHD version is commendable, making the distinctive visual gags and action sequences even more immersive. This release is poised to be a benchmark for high-definition home viewing, providing an exceptional audio-visual feast. The HDR10/Rec.2020 compliance ensures stunning clarity and color vibrancy that enhances every sequence. The punchy sound design complements the film's fast-paced nature, providing a sensory backdrop that enhances its many comedic elements. The chemistry between Reynolds and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa anchors the comedic chaos, adding depth to the offbeat romantic undercurrents in the story.
"Deadpool's" foundational strengths lie in its ability to maintain personal stakes amidst high-octane action and its non-conformist humor, sharply etched by Reynolds' performance. Despite tapping into well-worn superhero tropes, it continually reinvents them with a brisk pace and clever wit, resonating strongly with both comic aficionados and general audiences. This release solidifies its standing as a pioneer in the R-rated superhero domain, delighting viewers with layered humor and stylistic aplomb.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray release of "Deadpool" is a remarkable entry into the comic book movie genre that caters especially to adult fans with its irreverent humor, explicit language, and unapologetic violence. The film's distinctive ability to break the fourth wall and make meta-commentary offers a refreshing take on superhero narratives. Despite being produced on a limited budget, the film boasts impressive visual effects and exciting action sequences that appeal to its mature audience. This release not only captures the irreverent essence of Deadpool but excels in delivering a high-quality viewing experience.
From a technical perspective, the Ultra HD presentation is superb, with stunning high-resolution HDR and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) video. While not quite reaching demo quality due to stylistic film-making choices and substantial use of green screen, the picture quality remains exceptional. The Dolby Atmos audio mix provides an immersive soundscape that complements the stellar visuals, ensuring that each explosive set-piece resonates with impact. Supplementary features further enhance value, providing extensive content that fans will appreciate.
In conclusion, "Deadpool" on 4K UHD Blu-ray sets a new benchmark for home entertainment releases. It's a must-have for early adopters who want to showcase their setup and for fans desiring the ultimate home viewing experience. With its superior audio-visual quality and comprehensive extras, this release proves that mainstream blockbusters can blend humor and action effectively while pushing technical boundaries. Whether you're upgrading your collection or seeking an outstanding reference disc, "Deadpool" is highly recommended for those with compatible HDR10-capable UHD setups.

PlotWade Wilson, a former special forces operative turned mercenary with a quick wit and a twisted sense of humor, lives in New York City where he meets and falls in love with Vanessa, a local escort. Their relationship progresses rapidly, both bonding over their eccentricities and traumatic pasts. However, their happiness is shattered when Wade is suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer, leaving him with a grim prognosis. Desperate to find a cure and unwilling to leave Vanessa bereft, Wade leaves her without explanation to undergo a risky treatment he hopes will save his life.
The treatment, offered by a shadowy organization under the guise of a cancer cure, subjects Wade to extreme torture in an attempt to activate latent mutant genes. The experiment is run by Ajax, a sadistic scientist with enhanced strength and a pain insensitivity who aims to create super-powered slaves to sell to the highest bidder. The procedure eventually grants Wade extraordinary regenerative abilities that cure his cancer but severely disfigure his appearance. Mentally and physically scarred, he adopts a new identity with a costume to mask his disfigurement, and armed with his new powers and a twisted sense of humor, he sets out on a quest for revenge against those who have wronged him, all while trying to stay out of the sight of his beloved Vanessa.
