Universal’s 4K Dolby Vision (HEVC 2160p, 1.85:1) delivers a natural, period-accurate image: richer earth tones, healthy skin tones, more vivid neon, and crisper fine detail/sequins, with light grain and minor debris. Contrast is strong, though the intentionally subdued palette makes this a tasteful, solid upgrade.

Upgrading from DTS-HD MA 5.1 to Dolby Atmos, this mix delivers cleaner, more lifelike dialogue, firmer gunshot/mine impact, and a wider, more precise soundstage with better separation. Music finally breathes—deeper bass yet balanced—with surrounds lending natural ambience and applause.
Extra: 51
All legacy extras return; no new additions. The Spacek/Apted commentary remains informative, complemented by a brief Tommy Lee Jones reminiscence and an Apted–Loretta Lynn interview focused on casting, including Doolittle.

Marking its 45th anniversary, Universal’s 4K UHD offers a solid presentation with all legacy extras intact. The package includes a slipcover, a bundled Blu-ray, and a Movies Anywhere digital code. A well-crafted biopic with standout Spacek/Jones, though not all will be won over.
