Zebraman 2 Blu-ray Arrives June 23 from 88 Films
88 Films releases Takashi Miike’s dystopian sequel Zebraman 2: Attack on Zebra City on Blu-ray with extensive extras
Zebraman 2: Attack on Zebra City, directed by Takashi Miike and written by Kankuro Kudo, arrives on Blu-ray from 88 Films on June 23, 2025. This follow-up to the 2004 original transports viewers to a dystopian 2025, where Shinichi, played by Show Aikawa, wakes without his memory or powers in an authoritarian Tokyo rechristened Zebra City.
The film explores a world dominated by the ultra right-wing governor Kozo and an enforced purge period called Zebra Time, where crime becomes legal for five minutes twice daily. The city’s media landscape is ruled by the hypnotic pop icon Zebra Queen, Kozo’s daughter, as Shinichi must regain his Zebraman abilities to counter their plans.
The Blu-ray edition features a high-definition presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with the original Japanese stereo and 5.1 surround sound audio tracks. English subtitles are provided. It includes an audio commentary by Joe Hickinbottom and brand new filmed introductions by Tom Mes.
Additional bonus materials enrich the release, including a making-of documentary, interviews with director Takashi Miike and cast members Riki Abe, Show Aikawa, Masahiro Inoue, and Riisa Naka, alongside original theatrical trailers, TV spots, a stills gallery, and original plus newly commissioned artwork by Lucas Peverill. This edition is region B locked.
The release by 88 Films continues the company's commitment to presenting important works in Japanese genre cinema with comprehensive supplements for collectors and fans alike.
