Yojimbo & Sanjuro 4K Blu-ray - March 2025 Release
British Film Institute releases Akira Kurosawa classics in 4K Blu-ray with Dolby Vision.
Yojimbo and Sanjuro, two timeless samurai classics directed by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, are set for a stunning return to screens with a 4K Blu-ray release by the British Film Institute. Scheduled for a March 17, 2025 release, this two-disc set offers a cinematic experience like never before, capturing every detail through pristine 4K restorations and Dolby Vision/HDR presentations.
The films, both starring the iconic Toshiro Mifune, are renowned for their captivating storytelling and innovative take on the samurai genre. Yojimbo (1961) pays homage to John Ford’s westerns, featuring an enigmatic samurai who plays rival factions against each other in a small town. Its success led Kurosawa to create Sanjuro (1962), a lighter yet equally engaging sequel that showcases a cunning samurai challenging societal norms and corruption.
This release is enriched with numerous special features. Engage in insightful discussions such as the Sword For Hire featurette, where Kurosawa scholar Jasper Sharp delves into the intricacies of the films. Audio commentaries, documentaries, and film introductions provide a comprehensive exploration of these masterpieces.
