Tom Tyler Silent Film Collection Blu-ray May 6
Undercrank Productions brings unseen Tom Tyler silent films from 1929 to Blu-ray in a double-feature release.
Tom Tyler Silent Film Collection is set for Blu-ray release on May 6 by Undercrank Productions. This collection features two silent films starring Tom Tyler—The Man from Nevada and Law of the Plains, both originally released in 1929. Known for his iconic roles as Captain Marvel and The Phantom in the early '40s, Tyler's silent era work presents a different facet of his career.
Produced by J. P. McGowan and distributed by Syndicate Pictures, these B-westerns played prominently in small-town theaters during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The films capture Tyler's emergence as a new style of wholesome cowboy hero amidst the sunset of contemporaries like William S. Hart and Tom Mix.
In The Man From Nevada, Tyler portrays a brave rancher determined to save a family from losing their homestead to villainous forces. Meanwhile, Law of the Plains showcases him avenging his father's demise against a notorious outlaw gang led by J. P. McGowan. Both films reflect the classic Western themes that were beloved by audiences of the era.
