Thief 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Releases August 25 from Arrow Video
Michael Mann’s neo-noir crime film stars James Caan with a 4K restoration and extensive special features.
Thief, Michael Mann's first theatrical feature, returns to Chicago's rain-soaked streets in this neo-noir crime story starring James Caan as Frank, a jewel thief aiming for a quiet life with his girlfriend (Tuesday Weld). When his fence is thrown from a window and the Chicago mafia threatens him, Frank's hopes unravel.
The film boasts a notable supporting cast including James Belushi, Robert Prosky, Willie Nelson, and Dennis Farina, combined with a Tangerine Dream electronic score. Thief laid groundwork for Mann’s later thrillers like Heat and Collateral, influencing the genre’s urban narrative style.
This Arrow Video limited edition includes a two-disc set. Disc One features a 4K restoration of the director's cut from the original camera negative, approved by Michael Mann. It presents the film in Dolby Vision/HDR, with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and stereo 2.0, alongside optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Special features on Disc One consist of audio commentary by Michael Mann and James Caan, the 2001 documentary "The Directors: Michael Mann" with interviews including Jon Voight and William Petersen, the 2014 interview titled "Stolen Dreams" with Caan, a French TV episode on James Caan, critic F.X. Feeney’s "The Art of the Heist" analysis, a new comparison of multiple cuts, UK "Violent Streets" opening and closing titles, plus the theatrical trailer.
