The Wind Will Carry Us 4K Blu-ray Arrives May 13 from Criterion
Criterion Collection releases Abbas Kiarostami’s meditative drama with new 4K restoration and comprehensive special features
The Wind Will Carry Us, one of director Abbas Kiarostami's foremost works, arrives on 4K Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection on May 13, 2025. This critically acclaimed film showcases Kiarostami’s contemplative style as it follows an undercover documentarian assigned to cover a village's funeral rites, only to encounter unexpected delays caused by an elderly woman's refusal to die.
Presented in a new 4K restoration with uncompressed monaural soundtrack, the release captures the film’s delicate exploration of the intersection between tradition and modernity set against the stark beauty of rural Iran. Criterion's edition offers an enhanced viewing experience through a new English subtitle translation and a Dolby Vision/HDR presentation.
Special features provide deeper insight into the film’s creation and significance, including the documentary A Week with Kiarostami (1999) by Yuji Mohara that explores the filmmaking process. Additionally, there is a 2002 interview with Kiarostami and a new video essay narrating the director’s poetic vision, read by longtime collaborator Massoumeh Lahiji. The package also includes a theatrical trailer.
This release is accompanied by a critical essay authored by poet and novelist Kaveh Akbar, giving added context to the film’s thematic richness.
