The Castle of Fu Manchu 4K Blu-ray Arrives July 29 from Blue Underground
Blue Underground releases a new 4K restoration of Jess Franco’s The Castle of Fu Manchu with Dolby Vision HDR and extensive special features
The Castle of Fu Manchu stars Christopher Lee in his final performance as the infamous super-villain Fu Manchu, alongside Tsai Chin as his daughter Lin Tang. Directed by Jess Franco, the film follows Fu Manchu’s plan to unleash a chemical weapon that freezes the seas, while his nemesis Nayland Smith, played by Richard Greene, attempts to stop the global threat.
Blue Underground’s release features an exclusive new 4K restoration sourced from the uncut and uncensored original camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision HDR. The set includes two discs: a 4K Blu-ray and a standard Blu-ray, both containing the restored film.
The 4K disc offers a new audio commentary by film historians Nathaniel Thompson and Troy Howarth, along with an international trailer. The Blu-ray adds further content such as a second audio commentary by the same historians, interviews with Stephen Thrower, author of Murderous Passions: The Delirious Cinema of Jess Franco, and a RiffTrax edition with Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy providing humorous commentary.
Additional extras include expanded poster and still galleries and a featurette titled “The Fall of Fu Manchu,” comprised of interviews with director Jess Franco, producer Harry Alan Towers, and principal cast members Christopher Lee and Tsai Chin. Audio tracks are presented in English DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0, with subtitles available in English SDH, French, and Spanish.
