88 Films releases Robert Hartford-Davis’ 1964 gothic thriller with new transfer and extensive special features
The Black Torment (1964), directed by Robert Hartford-Davis and produced by legendary Tony Tenser, arrives on Blu-ray from 88 Films on June 23. This British horror thriller stars Heather Sears, John Turner, Ann Lynn, Peter Arne, and Norman Bird.
The story follows Sir Richard Fordyke (John Turner) who returns home to introduce his new bride to his father but becomes entangled in a series of dark secrets and a murder accusation. The film delivers a richly atmospheric gothic narrative rooted in 1960s British horror.
This release features a high-definition transfer preserving the original 1.66:1 aspect ratio alongside the original English Mono soundtrack. The Blu-ray includes multiple audio commentaries by film historian Troy Howarth; Kim Newman and Stephen Jones; as well as Annette Whiteley and Roger Croucher. Additional features include recollections from Peter Dansie about the film, an image gallery, and optional English SDH.
Special packaging details include a reversible sleeve with new artwork by Sean Longmore and the original poster. The first pressing offers an illustrated booklet with writings by Barry Forshaw and a slipcase. Please note the disc is Region B locked.
