Slade In Flame Blu-ray Arrives May 19
BFI releases newly remastered Slade In Flame on Blu-ray featuring extensive bonus content and commentary
Slade in Flame (1974) arrives on Blu-ray from the British Film Institute on May 19, marking its first release in this format. The film, described by critic Mark Kermode as 'the Citizen Kane of British pop movies,' stars the glam-rock band Slade and presents a gritty portrayal of the music industry's impact on a rising pop group.
The narrative traces the band's journey from underground beginnings in 1960s clubs to large-scale stadium decline, offering a darkly cynical take on fame and commercial pressures. The film's screenplay, performances, and soundtrack have earned it cult classic status over time.
This edition has been newly remastered by the BFI from the best available 35mm sources, presented in both High Definition and Standard Definition. It includes a newly recorded audio commentary featuring director Richard Loncraine and Mark Kermode, along with a wealth of archival and new materials.
Bonus features span the 2025 short Make Way For Noddy with actor Tom Conti, an uncut 2002 interview with Noddy Holder by broadcaster Gary Crowley, plus The Making of Slade in Flame (2007) documentary containing interviews with the band and filmmakers. Additional content comprises a 1973 glam fashion short, original theatrical trailers, and a selection of promotional images.
The first pressing also contains an illustrated booklet with new analysis and essays by Graham Rinaldi, Jay Rathbone, Barry Forshaw, and Bob Stanley. Optional English SDH subtitles are included for the main feature.
