Shane 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Arrival on July 15 from Kino Lorber
Kino Lorber releases George Stevens' Shane in new 4K restoration with extensive audio commentaries and extras
Shane (1953), directed by George Stevens, stars Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, Brandon De Wilde, and Jack Palance in a classic Western tale. The story follows the mysterious gunslinger Shane, who arrives in a Wyoming town aiming for a quiet life. He takes work on homesteader Joe Starrett's farm and finds himself confronting ruthless cattle baron Rufus Ryker.
The release includes two discs: a 4K Blu-ray and a standard Blu-ray, both featuring a new 4K restoration sourced from the original camera negative. The 4K disc offers a Dolby Vision HDR presentation. Audio commentaries enrich the release, with insights from film historian Alan K. Rode, author of an upcoming monograph on Shane in the Reel West Series, alongside commentary by George Stevens Jr. and associate producer Ivan Moffat.
The Blu-ray disc mirrors the restored presentation and audio commentary, also adding the theatrical trailer. Both discs provide optional English subtitles. The package includes a limited edition O-Card slipcase.
