Robot Wars Blu-ray Battle Set to Electrify February 25!
101 Films readies Albert Band's 1993 cult sci-fi for a stunning Blu-ray release.
Robot Wars (1993) is slated to land on Blu-ray, thanks to British label 101 Films. Directed by Albert Band, this cult sci-fi gem, often regarded as a spiritual successor to Robot Jox, is all set for release on February 25. Starring Don Michael Paul, Barbara Crampton, Danny Kamekona, Yuji Okumoto, and J. Downing, the film transports viewers to a dystopian future America, where society is torn into two blocs—the North Hemi and the Eastern Alliance.
In this fractured future, peace is a fragile veneer, overshadowed by the threat of hostile pirates known as the Centros. The story pivots around the last functional mega robot, the MRAS-2, which now serves as a mere tourist attraction. However, when it falls into the wrong hands and becomes a harbinger of chaos, protagonist Drake (played by Don Michael Paul) must awaken another dormant robot—the MEGA-1—to combat the insidious MRAS-2 in a dramatic showdown.
The Blu-ray edition promises fans an enriched viewing experience, featuring optional English subtitles, and a host of extras designed to delve deeper into the film's universe. Among the special features are The Wizard of Wars: Remembering David Allen, a vintage 1997 Full Moon promo, and Videozone materials.
Enthusiasts of mecha-driven narratives will find much to admire in this release. The film, sculpting its own legend with influences from its predecessor and pioneering visual effects, stands as a unique beacon in cult cinema. With its timely release by 101 Films, audiences new and old can revisit or discover the thrilling dynamics of this underrated classic.
