Port of Shadows (Le Quai des Brumes, 1938), directed by Marcel Carné, starring Jean Gabin and Michèle Morgan, arrives on Blu-ray from StudioCanal on October 13. The romantic tragedy—a cornerstone of French poetic realism and an influence on film noir and the French New Wave—follows a military deserter who finds fleeting love, trouble and even a small dog in the fogbound port of Le Havre.
The Blu-ray features an exclusive new 4K restoration of the film (2025) carried out at Transperfect. The restoration combined the film's incomplete original negative with a 1938 standard nitrate fine grain; colour grading referenced a vintage 35mm nitrate print to reflect Eugène Schüfftan's cinematography and Alexandre Trauner's set design. The Blu-ray presents the film in French with English subtitles.
