Midnight Blu-ray Releases June 17 from Criterion
Criterion Collection presents a new 4K restoration of Midnight with extensive special features including commentaries and rare interviews
Midnight arrives on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection on June 17, 2025. This release presents a new 4K restoration of the classic screwball comedy directed by Mitchell Leisen.
The film stars Claudette Colbert as a penniless American showgirl who masquerades as a wealthy Hungarian baroness, navigating Parisian high society while pursued by a scheming nobleman and a smitten taxi driver. The screenplay by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett combines sophisticated wit with social observation, making the film a notable example of the genre.
This edition includes an uncompressed monaural soundtrack that complements the newly restored picture. Special features consist of a new audio commentary by film critic Michael Koresky, a program featuring audio excerpts from a 1969 interview with director Mitchell Leisen, and the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the film from 1940. The package also contains the original theatrical trailer and English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The Criterion release maintains the film’s period charm and wit with technical precision, offering cinephiles in-depth perspectives through its supplemental materials. This release adds an important title to Criterion's June 2025 slate of restorations and contemporary classics.
Release Date: June 17, 2025.
