Jack the Ripper 4K Blu-ray Arrives June 2025 from Severin Films
Severin Films releases a new 4K restoration of Jack the Ripper (1959) featuring two versions and extensive bonus content
Jack the Ripper (1959) arrives on 4K Blu-ray from Severin Films in June 2025, presenting a newly scanned uncut 4K restoration of both the notorious European version and the re-scored American cut. Directed and produced by Robert S. Baker and Monty Berman, and written by Hammer Films’ Jimmy Sangster, this UK thriller gained attention for its startling violence and graphic nudity upon original release.
The release includes two discs: DISC ONE is the 4K Blu-ray with HDR10 presentation supplying both versions of the film. It features an audio commentary with co-director/co-producer/co-cinematographer Robert S. Baker, screenwriter Jimmy Sangster, and assistant director Peter Manley, moderated by British horror historian Marcus Hearn. Additional elements include the original trailer and optional English SDH subtitles.
DISC TWO is a Blu-ray containing the same two versions in 4K, plus the detailed commentary track and several special features. These include "The Reel Jack The Ripper," an interview with Denis Meikle, author of Jack The Ripper: The Murders And The Movies; "Gentleman Jack," a feature on the Whitechapel murders revisited; "Choice Cuts: The Two Faces Of Jack The Ripper," an interview with ripperologist Alain Petit; a poster and still gallery; and the theatrical trailer.
This release marks the first time these versions have been scanned from newly discovered internegative and fine-grain protection prints, offering significant visual enhancements. The comprehensive presentation aims to provide both historical context and technical insight into one of the more provocative shockers of its era.
