Come Drink with Me 4K Blu-ray Arrives August 25 from 88 Films
King Hu's martial arts classic comes in a two-disc set with a new 4K restoration and extensive bonus features
Come Drink with Me (1966), directed by King Hu and starring Cheng Pei-pei, Yueh Hua, and Jackie Chan, releases on 4K Blu-ray from 88 Films on August 25. This two-disc set comprises a 4K Blu-ray and a standard Blu-ray, presenting the film in Dolby Vision HDR from a brand new 4K restoration sourced from the original camera negative.
The film follows Golden Swallow (Cheng Pei-pei), who is sent by her powerful father to rescue her kidnapped brother. Fan Da-pei (Yueh Hua), a kung-fu master disguised as a drunken beggar, assists her, while adversaries include a seemingly invincible villain and bandits, one of whom is a rival martial artist. The film was produced by the Shaw Brothers studio and is known for influencing generations of martial arts cinema.
Audio options feature English and Mandarin mono 2.0 tracks, with newly translated English subtitles provided for the Mandarin version. The package includes rich supplemental materials such as two audio commentaries—one by Frank Djeng of the New York Asian Film Festival and another by genre expert Samm Deighan—as well as interviews with key cast members Cheng Pei-pei, Yueh Hua, and Chen Hung-Lieh recorded in the early 2000s.
Additional extras include an interview segment titled The King And I, where director Tsui Hark reflects on King Hu's legacy, several other cast interviews, a stills gallery, and the original theatrical trailer. The 4K Blu-ray is region-free, while the Blu-ray is region B locked.
