The film is co-written by Alberto Penna and scored by Gian Piero Reverberi.
A Hyena in the Safe is a giallo-meets-caper: six robbers reunite to open a safe and divide diamonds, only to be picked off one by one amid paranoia and dark humour. Canevari's direction mixes psychedelic visuals and inventive death sequences with a 1960s flamboyant tone.
Highlights of the disc include the new commentary and the Marshall-Roberts essay, both of which contextualize the film's place in Canevari's work and the late-'60s Italian genre scene. The package also collects archival promotional material and the theatrical trailer.
