PlotIn a rural Japanese town, Suzu, a shy high school student, is struggling with a personal tragedy from her past. She lives with her father, with whom she shares a strained and distant relationship, adding to the weight of her emotional baggage. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she is introduced to "U," a massive online virtual world that has gained global popularity. In "U," users can create avatars to represent themselves, allowing them to be whomever they want to be.
Upon joining "U," Suzu creates an alter ego named Belle, a beautiful and enchanting songstress. Belle soon becomes a viral sensation within the platform, amassing a vast following due to her mesmerizing voice and concerts. Her rising star within this digital realm offers her a new sense of freedom and escapism, allowing Suzu to express herself in ways she never could before. As Belle, Suzu feels alive and connected to others, but her newfound fame brings challenges and attention, both positive and negative. This alternate existence becomes even more complicated when she encounters a mysterious and notorious avatar known as the Dragon, whose tumultuous behavior and masked persona captivate the digital world and embroil her in a quest that blurs the lines between her virtual life and her reality.
