After robbing a casino, siblings Addison and Liza make a run for the Canadian border in a blizzard but crash their car, killing a state trooper. They decide to split up: Addison heads on foot through the woods while Liza is picked up by an ex-boxer named Jay, who is on his way home for Thanksgiving with his parents, June and retired sheriff Chet. Jay had just been released from prison and unwittingly becomes entangled in Liza's dangerous world as their chemistry grows.
