PlotFBI agent Ray Levoi, with mixed Sioux heritage, is assigned to assist on a murder investigation on a South Dakota Native American reservation. Tasked alongside seasoned Agent Frank Coutelle, Levoi finds himself navigating tensions between the federal government and the local tribal community. As he delves deeper into the case, Levoi confronts not only the complexities of the crime but also his own cultural lineage. He soon forms an uneasy alliance with tribal police officer Walter Crow Horse, who warns him of greater underlying conspiracies and pervasive corruption.
Despite initial resistance and cultural clashes, Levoi begins to empathize with the struggles faced by the Native American community. During his investigation, he uncovers evidence of ecological devastation linked to mining operations and witnesses the community's deep-rooted spiritual beliefs, embodied by elder Sam Reaches. As Levoi confronts these revelations, his path leads him to question what justice truly means in a world tainted by exploitation and deceit.
