The alliance comprises members of the Justice League, the Teen Titans, the Suicide Squad, and other powerful beings. Determined to prevent Darkseid's previous invasions of Earth from ever happening again, they aim to catch him off guard and cripple his ability to wage war across the universe. The team unites, banking on their combined strengths, to end his reign of terror once and for all.

However, the offensive takes a disastrous turn when the heroes are met with a prepared and formidable resistance that decimates their forces, leading to severe casualties. In the wake of their failed assault, Earth falls under Darkseid's control, resulting in a grim and oppressive reality ruled over by his merciless parademon armies. Those heroes who have survived are left scattered, broken, and under constant threat. A smaller, covert group of heroes and antiheroes must regroup and form a resistance against the overwhelming odds. In the face of such dire circumstances, they are forced to confront their personal losses, guilt, and the potential futility of their continued fight, all the while searching for any remaining hope to save their world from complete obliteration.
