PlotMichael Walker, a history professor, has always struggled with the Christmas season due to a traumatic childhood incident that extinguished his holiday spirit. Living in Austin, Texas with his wife Susan and their son David, Michael's reluctance towards Christmas becomes a point of contention within his family. Despite attempts by Susan and David to imbue their home with festive cheer, Michael remains resistant, haunted by his past. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they encounter Nick, a quirky old man who sells them their dream house under mysterious circumstances. This new home, located in a neighborhood that celebrates Christmas with unbridled enthusiasm, adds pressure on Michael to confront his aversion to the holiday.
As the festive season approaches, Michael finds himself increasingly isolated from his family and neighbors, who are deeply immersed in Christmas preparations. However, Nick becomes a guiding figure, slowly revealing insights that hint at the deeper reasons behind Michael's scars. With decorations going up around him and carolers filling the air with music, Michael is faced with an internal struggle of whether he can overcome his fears and join in the joy of the season. The turning point centers on his decision to either remain anchored in his grief or embrace the community’s love and support to rekindle the lost magic of Christmas.
