A Mexican-American teenager named Jaime Reyes leads an ordinary life in El Paso, Texas, until his path crosses with a mysterious piece of alien technology. Fate takes a turn when the artifact -- a scarab -- unexpectedly fuses with Jaime, endowing him with powerful armor, weaponry, and the ability to fly. As he grapples with his newfound abilities, Jaime discovers the scarab is sentient, allowing him a vast array of extraterrestrial capabilities but also inserting him in the middle of an ancient war that spans galaxies.
