Plot

In 1950s New York, a young aspiring photographer named Therese Belivet works in a department store where she meets an elegant and sophisticated older woman named Carol Aird. Carol is in the midst of a difficult divorce and custody battle for her young daughter Rindy. The chance meeting sparks a connection between the two women, leading to an invitation for Therese to visit Carol's home. As they grow closer, their friendship begins to evolve into something more profound, forcing both women to confront their feelings and the societal constraints around them.

Carol's estranged husband, Harge, becomes suspicious of her relationship with Therese and uses it against her in their custody negotiations. Simultaneously, Therese navigates her personal relationships and career ambitions as she grapples with her romantic feelings for Carol. The mounting pressures from family, society, and their personal lives challenge the intensity and future of their bond.
