Buster Moon, a resourceful koala and theater owner, is eager to take his local talent to bigger stages. After successfully saving his crumbling theater and launching a hit singing competition, he sets his sights on debuting a new show at the prestigious Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. Despite the dismissive attitude of the theater's mogul, Jimmy Crystal, Buster and his enthusiastic troupe mount an ambitious plan to impress the tycoon. They propose a space-themed musical extravaganza, which captures Jimmy's imagination under one condition: the inclusion of a reclusive rock star.

The stakes are high as Buster and friends – including harried mother and pig performer Rosita, punk-rock porcupine Ash, earnest gorilla Johnny, and shy elephant Meena – grapple with the challenges of a big production. While Rosita faces her fear of heights to fulfill an intense aerial dancing role, Johnny needs to overcome his lack of dance skills, and Ash is tasked with convincing the reluctant rock star to join their show. Each character embarks on an emotional journey to overcome their personal hurdles, proving that passion and perseverance can lead to the greatest of performances.
